Role Description

The Lead Teacher works directly with children enrolled in the program and provides supervision and guidance to

Teachers and Assistant Teachers employed at the program. The Lead Teacher is a full-time 12 month per year position.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain the child care program with other teaching staff in accordance with philosophy, policies, standards, and expectations of Early Steps Daycare, Inc.
  • Serve as a model teacher for co-workers and volunteers at the program.
  • Provide high quality care and stimulating educational opportunities for all children enrolled.
  • Provide an environment that meets or exceeds the safety expectations, protocols, and procedures outlined by Early Steps Daycare, MA EEC regulations, and other regulatory mandates.
  • Report any potentially harmful situations within the facility or its equipment to the Site Director immediately and take corrective action to minimize the hazard whenever it is safe to do so.
  • Extend teaching work hours as requested and under unusual circumstances to maintain ratios.
  • Provide daily reports to enrolled families regarding their child’s experiences, needs, and overall welfare.
  • Participate in the process of providing families interested in enrollment with program tours and interviews.
  • Maintain ongoing written and/or computerized curriculum, child observational records, progress reports, and other documentation required by MA EEC, Early Steps Daycare, and other regulatory mandates.
  • Schedule progress report meetings with families every 6 months or as outlined in the MA EEC Regulations.
  • Present any individual concerns of children and/or families with the Site Director as they arise and participate in meetings to discuss these concerns as requested.
  • Support families with issues or concerns; assist Site Director with providing referrals as needed and when appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in Early Steps Daycare family nights or other events as scheduled.
  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Meet with the program Site Director bi-weekly or as needed to discuss the routine program functioning, operation, and delivery of child care services.
  • Provide updated supplies needed list to the Site Director on a regular basis in order to ensure the program has the materials needed to conduct business each day.
  • Acquire and maintain required training hours as well as First Aid & CPR certifications as required by EEC.
  • Assume the Site Director responsibilities in their absence.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and protocols set forth by Early Steps Daycare.
  • Support the teaching and learning process for all by actively working with co-workers and administrative staff to ensure a culture of collaboration, teamwork, civility, and professionalism.
  • Provide flexible and responsive customer service to all whom Early Steps Daycare serves.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • MA Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) Lead Teacher Certification
  • At least two years of ECE classroom teaching experience
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Be an effective communicator and facilitator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related
  • 5 Years of classroom teaching experience
  • MA DEEC Director I Certification


Working conditions


Work performed in a day care environment. Physical requirements: May needs to sit for long periods of time; use of hands and arms to complete tasks; may need to walk or stand in the course of work as well as light to medium levels of lifting of supplies or equipment.
